Mercedes-AMG is a car that is built to perform. The letters A and M in the name stand for the names of the original founders - Aufrecht and Melcher, while the G stands for Großaspach which was Aufrecht’s birthplace.
How the Mercedes AMG has evolved from release
AMG began as racing engines and the founders had emphasized wanting to create proper racing cars, yet they have adapted considerably from this in recent years. In the early 2000s, AMG focused on supercharged V6 and V8 engines, before abandoning this technology in 2006 in favour of turbocharging for higher output rather than supercharging. In 2006 the new 6.2-litre engine was the first to be a pure AMG and not based on a pre-existing Mercedes product - a ground-breaking year for the brand.
This was also the year they produced their first 'Black Series' car which went on to be one of the most popular in their range. In 2016, the SLC43 was introduced - the first in a series of V6 power plants filling a gap in the entry-level. In 2018 they produced their first hybrid assisted model and in 2018 the GT Four Door Coupe was introduced, being one of their most powerful vehicles.

What are the engine options on the Mercedes-AMG?
The AMG has a few different engine choices, and all aside from a select few (the "35" M260 2.0 L Inline-4 Turbo, "43" M276 3.0 L V6 Bi-Turbo engine and certain "43" and "53" models with the M256 inline 6 engine) are built to their philosophy of “one man, one engine.” Each builder at the AMG plant in Germany stamps their signature onto the engine with an engraved plaque to signify they worked on this. There are a host of engine choices, including:
